Tampa, Florida -- A woman barely had time to scoop up her daughter and run as eight families lost everything when a fire tore through their apartment building in Carrollwood.

Some of the people chased from their apartments by fire early Wednesday morning have literally the clothes on their back -- and that's it.

Weather damages, closes library in Carrollwood

Carrollwood, Florida - Due to rain damage from today's inclement weather, the Jimmie B. Keel Regional Library - 2902 W. Bearss Ave. in Tampa - is temporarily closed.

Strong storms knock trees onto houses

Storms continue to push south across , Polk, Highlands, Hardee, Desoto and Sarasota counties.

There have been numerous reports of hail stemming from these storms, and 10 News has learned of trees falling on houses in Seffner and in Zephyrhills. There's no word on any injuries at this time.

Gun malfunctions 3 times as man attacks estranged wife

Tampa, Florida -- A woman escaped with her life early Sunday morning after deputies say an attack from her estranged husband didn't go quite as planned.

Katherinez Villanueva, 23, told Hillsborough Sheriff's deputies she heard strange noises outside her front door around 1:27 a.m. Sunday. When she peeked out the window, she saw Julio Villanueva-Vasquez crouched down using some sort of tool to pry open her door.

Florida city abuzz: Who among us won Powerball jackpot?

USA- Today --The Florida sun was shining a little bit brighter Sunday on an unidentified person who beat odds of 175 million-to-1 on a Powerball ticket worth $590.5 million, the largest jackpot in the game's history.

The lucky numbers in Saturday night's drawing were 10, 13, 14, 22 and 52, with a Powerball of 11. A mob of media and the curious amassed Sunday outside the Zephyr Commons Publix supermarket, in the Tampa suburb of Zephyrhills, where the winning ticket was sold.

Commissioners seek applications for citizen boards and councils

Hillsborough County, Florida -- Hillsborough County Commissioners are seeking residents to serve on several County citizen advisory boards and councils. Residents interested in seeking appointment must be registered voters in Hillsborough County. These are voluntary positions, and members serve without compensation. Applicants may apply to more than one board, but may only serve on one board at a time. All applicants must submit the Standards of Conduct form along with their application.
