TAMPA, Florida -- Dr. Hector Rivera and his wife, Debbie, were known as kind people.

They loved being with family and they truly enjoyed helping others, friends say. The longtime doctor enjoyed a busy career as a Town N' Country physician before retiring. His wife, Debbie, was an interior designer and made jewelry. She was known at parties in South Tampa for showing her handbags and beautiful earrings and necklaces.

HCSO: Avila murders not random; killer still on the loose

Tampa, Florida -- The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has identified the man and woman found murdered at their Avila home as 76-year-old Hector Rivera and his wife, 55-year-old Debra Rivera.

The crime has stunned the community and those who know the family. They are remembered as a friendly and loving couple.

Hector was a retired doctor and Debra owned her own design company.

HCSO investigating homicide in exclusive Avila neighborhood

TAMPA, Fla. -- The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is investigating two deaths in the Avila subdivision of Tampa.

The HCSO received a call around 7:53 p.m. about multiple gunshots being heard and, after responding, found two deceased individuals inside the home at 814 Taray De Avila.

Sheriff David Gee says "it's definitely" a homicide.

The victims are identified as husband and wife, 76 year old Hector Rivera and Debra Rivera.

A search warrant was served just before 3am.

Iran threats, employment numbers affect price at pump

Tampa, FL -- While retail gasoline prices already have consumers concerned about gas reaching $4 a gallon after the recent price jump last week, the new question is whether or not the national average will rise to $4.20 by spring or summer.

According to AAA Club South, while there’s the possibility pump prices could surpass $4 a gallon, it’s still too early to say exactly what the marquee will read four to six months down the road.

International Wheelchair Rugby Tournament

Hillsborough County Parks, Recreation and Conservation is hosting the 20th Annual Coloplast International Wheelchair Rugby Tournament at All People’s Life Center on Jan. 13-15.

This international tournament, drawing teams from all over the world, will feature Tampa’s very own wheelchair rugby team, the Tampa Generals.
