Someone tries to firebomb apartment leasing office

Tampa, Florida -- An apartment complex leasing office almost went up in flames Monday morning after someone tried to firebomb the building.

Firefighters were called La Vista Oaks Apartment Community on St. James Place Drive shortly after 7:30 a.m. after the leasing manager found what appeared to be two Molotov cocktails.

One was thrown through a front window while the other was lodged in the mailbox.

Officials say neither homemade bomb exploded and no one was injured.

"When (the leasing manager) opened the door he became overwhelmed with the smell of gasoline, he walked in and saw a bottle of unknown contents and immediately called 911," said Hillsborough County Fire Rescue Spokesperson Nacole Revette.

So far, no one has been arrested but authorities are continuing to investigate.
