Florida city abuzz: Who among us won Powerball jackpot?

USA- Today --The Florida sun was shining a little bit brighter Sunday on an unidentified person who beat odds of 175 million-to-1 on a Powerball ticket worth $590.5 million, the largest jackpot in the game's history.

The lucky numbers in Saturday night's drawing were 10, 13, 14, 22 and 52, with a Powerball of 11. A mob of media and the curious amassed Sunday outside the Zephyr Commons Publix supermarket, in the Tampa suburb of Zephyrhills, where the winning ticket was sold.

Commissioners seek applications for citizen boards and councils

Hillsborough County, Florida -- Hillsborough County Commissioners are seeking residents to serve on several County citizen advisory boards and councils. Residents interested in seeking appointment must be registered voters in Hillsborough County. These are voluntary positions, and members serve without compensation. Applicants may apply to more than one board, but may only serve on one board at a time. All applicants must submit the Standards of Conduct form along with their application.

Assistant principal denied service dog at school

Tampa, Florida -- The Americans with Disabilities Act says service dogs are working dogs and are free to go anywhere. But when an assistant principal in Hillsborough County asked the district if she could bring her service dog to school their answer was, "No."

Agnes Tanon-Rodenbach, 47, says she spent five months going through the proper channels to get permission to bring her dog to work with her, but the district's answer is still no. 

Rodenbach is on medical leave for a disability she describes as invisible but says is very real.

Air pollution precaution issued for Hillsborough County

Tampa, Florida --  The Environmental Protection Commission of Hillsborough County is issuing an Air Pollution precaution due to elevated levels of the pollutant ozone.

This precautionary statement is effective immediately Friday, May 17. 

Elevated concentrations have been observed at multiple air monitoring stations and there is still a potential for levels to reach the unhealthy for sensitive groups.

This precaution is based on elevated concentrations of ozone observed at multiple air monitoring stations throughout the day.

Tampa, Florida -- Local up and coming actors will have a terrific chance to work with Broadway and television professionals this summer at the Straz Center’s Patel Conservatory. Auditions will be held for the summer intensives “Little Shop of Horrors” and “A Straz Center Revue” this Saturday (May 18) beginning at 1 p.m. Auditions will be held at the Patel Conservatory at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts.
